Many of us have a goal not just to "talk the talk" but to be able to actually "walk the walk." Not just talk about being free and not just talk about finding joy in the midst of tough times, but rather truly live free and joy-filled lives no matter what our circumstances may be.
Years ago, it was common practice for parents to teach their kids about the virtues of Prudence, Temperance, Fortitude, and Justice. By being well practiced in these four human virtues, otherwise known as the"Cardinal" virtues, people could live life with more freedom and joy. Sadly, today we rarely hear or learn much about the Cardinal virtues, let alone know how to apply them to our day-to-day activities and relationships. Church icons like St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas, Pope Benedict XVI, and Greek philosophers like Aristotle speak of the essential need for these four cardinal virtues to be in a man's life for him to have true freedom and joy in this life.
Starting Tuesday, February 28th, after 5:30 Mass, we will begin an adult education class discussing the Cardinal virtues. The name of the course is; "The Art of Living, The Cardinal Virtues and the Freedom to Love." The Parish will provide the books needed for the course, and a donation of $3.00 will cover the cost of the book. There will be six classes taking place through Lent. The books for the class will be available at the Church starting February 25th.
I am very excited about this particular class and hope you will attend. Let us all use this season of Lent and this course on the virtues to become the person Christ has made each one of us to be; Saints who are truly free and full of joy!
God's blessings,
Deacon Steve
